Dokra created by the Dokra group of tribal craftsmen which gives us a timeless heritage of beautifully shaped and decorated products of cast metals. The name Dokra or Dhokra was used to indicate a group of craftsmen of nomadic type, scattered over Bengal, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh and were identified by their beautifully shaped and decorated metal products. They are mostly created in the District of Purulia and Birbhum. Molten metals replace wax in the traditional hollow casting method. The products are appreciated because of their primitive simplicity, enchanting folk motifs and forceful form. A method perfected in India long before the advent of the Aryans.
